Externships
Work on real AI policy questions with expert mentors and develop research grounded in current governance debates.

The AI Policy Lab Externship connects students with ongoing research projects in AI governance and policy. Over the course of the program, externs define a focused research question, receive guidance from experienced mentors, and take part in workshops on the AI policy landscape, literature reviews, qualitative methods, and policy writing. The structure combines independence with support. Externs shape their projects in dialogue with mentors, engage actively in feedback processes and present their progress at key milestones.
By the end of the program, each extern produces a policy-oriented output grounded in careful research and connected to current debates in AI governance.
Externships typically run for approximately one semester and are not part of formal university credit. The aim is to build strong research skills and learn how to develop structured, policy-relevant analysis on real AI issues.
