Society

AI, its development, its use, and the theories surrounding it, cannot be divorced from its current and historical societal context. At the same time, the impact of both AI research and practise on society is of major interest to the AI Policy Lab. As such, this strand of research concerns precisely the linkages connecting AI and society more broadly, including how it interacts with, and drives change in, social structures and hierarchies, its impacts on and use of human labour and the digital commons, and the social roots of the particular ways AI is currently being conceptualized and deployed.
