Leila Methnani
Doctoral Student
Leila Methnani is a Doctoral Student in Computer Science at Umeå University and an affiliated WASP-HS student. Her research centres around Explainable AI. She is particularly interested in the social aspects of explanation and how we can take that into account when developing and evaluating technical explanation techniques. Her research interests also include human-AI teaming and human oversight over AI.
Leila has co-organised the introduction to Responsible and Explainable AI (REX) tutorial presented at the Northern Lights Deep Learning Winter School in 2025, supported the 2024 Hybrid Human-AI (HHAI) conference as co-chair of student volunteers, co-organised the REX tutorial and the workshop on Ethics of Game AI at the 2023 European Conference on AI. In 2023, Leila supported the organisation and coordination of TAIGAs FrAIday talks.
Leila received her Masters of Science in Computer Science from Umeå University in 2022, and her Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia in 2017.
